A playthrough you ask? Why yes! A playthrough. I’ve always been a fan of playthroughs and ‘Let’s Plays’ on YouTube and wanted to do my own series of videos like those, so here I am today, finally starting one.

It’s Metroid Fusion, and well if you want t follow my playthroughs go to my Youtube Channel and subscribe silly! My channel is Kaiser2305.

As I previously mentioned the way I am presenting these articles is by way of bands, remix sites and the such; and for my first one I chose to write about my favorite band among them all: The Megas.

The Megas are a video game cover band with a unique twist, although they arrange Mega Man songs in Rock fashion they also do something else that most do not and that is to write lyrics related to each song. What this means is, for example in The Annihilation of Monsteropolis (Take a listen) they mention how Air Man, the actual Robot Master from the game is feeling and expresses his sentiments towards Mega Man and his plan to take control of the entire world, a true anthem for any villain if I do say so myself.

And that is one of the major reasons why this band is amongst the most popular ones across both Mega Man fans and video game music fans as well. Each song creates  distinct personalities to each character they decide to cover a song of, personalities that were not present or were barely noticed due to the games being released 20 years ago and really, technical limitations at the time did not made it possible to write video game character emotions or personalities.

Currenly The Megas have released 2 albums, Get Equipped! & Get Acoustic! both albums are based upon Mega Man’s second adventure on the NES. Both albums are of the highest quality and deserve a purchase and although the album Get Acoustic! features the same songs that Get Equipped! does the songs seem totally new and create a whole different vibe to each character, I recommend purchasing the two of them. Aside from these 2 full fledged albums they have recently released a single from their upcoming Mega Man 3 disc entitled Sparked a War which features 5 songs.

Writing lyrics to songs also means singing of course, and do they manage to do it? Oh, most definitely. Featuring brilliant harmonies which instantly makes every song extra awesome, and a lead singer that knows how to convey each word he’s singing into true feelings of despair or remorse make this band exceptionally great, making themselves stand out among the crowd. A crowd that is increasing in both quantity and quality which is fantastic for someone like me that loves video game songs.

The Megas are currently tied as my favorite band of all time of not just video game related music but in general. I love how each song arrangement creates unique personalities for the characters and that is why The Megas are my favorite.

I mentioned before that I was going to write about video game music sites, remixes, cover bands and all that stuff and I’ll list some of these sites and bands I plan to talk about:

• Dwelling of Duels

Don’t expect long essays and over-analyzing of stuff though, I plan to be the most simple, quirky and interesting as I can be, as that is my writing style really and ultimately the reason why I enjoy writing in the first place. So yeah, I think starting Monday I’ll begin with this series which I entitled “Blips & Bloops – Musical Evolution in Games” and I think it really captures what I’m aiming at with these articles don’t you think?

Also since I’m bilingual and speak both English and Spanish I’ll be posting some stuff in Spanish as well, so don’t get surprised if there’s an entry in Spanish; just wanted to get that out of the way right now.

Lastly, I added both a Contact Me and Portfolio page, they’re both pretty self-explanatory really but I’ll give a very brief explanation on what they’re for.

And that’s it for now. Oh and by the by the teaser image I posted the other day is meant for a series of articles I plan on writing that revolve around video game music, I’ll be including cover bands, remix sites and all that neat stuff that I love, so stay tuned for that.

Fast forward to mid 2010, and we are 4 years and a half into the generation and we have technically no sign of a change of generation anytime soon, and while I’m sure that all 3 companies are working hard on their current console successor they are in no hurry into launching new hardware; Microsoft is launching Kinect, Sony releasing Move and Nintendo is too busy releasing games for their core fans, it seems they’re all quite content with the situation right now.

So what does that mean to the consumer? I’ve never been happier with a situation like this before, you see, the people that follow the Industry closely know that every certain time (5 years) a change is coming, a big change. Console manufacturers releasing new home hardware is very exciting for us, usually when a new system is released it comes with new features that are both welcomed and unexpected, developers bring their biggest projects to try and meet launch and the games themselves bring the feeling of ‘new’ alongside them… but not everything is happiness for the consumer, no, not only would we have to invest into yet another piece of electronic, but we have to purchase new accessories and games so we can actually use this new console. Everything that revolves around a new generation arriving is expensive, and not everyone is as lucky to just have the money to purchase everything they want at launch, some may even have to sell their now obsolete console in order to purchase the newest one.

As with everything in life, a new generation of video games has it’s pros and cons. This generation has been an interesting one for sure, with Nintendo totally owning the market with both Wii and Nintendo DS and this being a totally physical one, with this I mean, that this generation has been heavily influenced by motion controllers and new gameplay concepts and ideas that both the Wii and PS3 brought with their arrivals; both of these consoles included a motion sensing controller that challenged developers to try and think of concepts they never thought of before. Nintendo exploited the ‘casual’ user market starting in 2005 with the release of Brain Age in 2005 on the Nintendo DS system but with Wii everyone, and I mean everyone, has changed their opinions and views on video games thanks to the new look these consoles made to the definition of a ‘video game’.

What could the next generation hold? When will it be? Well only time will tell, but right now it’s a great time to be a video game fan. New and fantastic games are launching and to be launched on all consoles, my family and yours are enjoying games alongside us veteran players and aside from a few crazy fans that defend a company or console to no end, we’re all a big happy family that enjoys to have fun with these electronic toys.
